Our Story...

Mountain Echo Farm is owned and operated by Larry and Heather Scislowicz.  Larry moved to Warren County, VA  in 1994 after graduating from college and had been making a living as an Engineer.  He followed his passion for organic farming and his love of the outdoors and now farms full-time.  Heather, a New Jersey native, settled in the DC metro area after college for a job in Washington, D.C.  Heather and Larry were married in 2001 and purchased 2 1/2 acres in Rivermont where they started their original farm, On Simple Grounds Farm, in 2009.   They expanded the farm with the addition of an 11 acre property in Browntown called Mountain Echo Farm. This new property gave Larry the opportunity to pursue his dream of building a sustainable farmstead, including a self built cabin and barn. Larry has been gardening organically for over 15 years and volunteered at a local organic farm in 2008 before pursuing a career in farming.   Larry and Heather are committed to the environment, their customers, and their community and look forward to providing healthy food to Front Royal and the surrounding area for many years to come!

Our Growing Methods...

We grow healthy vegetables using simple farming practices.  We use no herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or plastic mulch.  We use absolutely no pesticides, even those that are allowed for organic production!  We control pests through the use of floating row covers, crop rotation, and physical removal.  Our farm embraces the principles of sustainability through the use of water saving drip irrigation, composting, solar electricity, and minimal tillage. Planting beds are prepared using a broad fork and a two-wheeled BCS tractor. To boost the level of nutrients available to our plants, we incorporate on-farm produced compost.  Our heritage breed chickens are pasture raised and fed a high quality, soy free, organic feed.  We believe our efforts result in tasty, healthy vegetables grown without damaging our environment.
